My aim is a calm relaxed routine dental treatment tailored to each horses individuals temperament and needs. Patience and zero pressure is the key for the best possible experience/treatment for both the horse and owner.
Routine dental care is primarily about preventative care much like human dentistry. My objectives are to examine and maintain your horses dentition and oral health on a 6 or 12 month appointment, taking into consideration the individuals needs based on the horses age, clinical history, the head conformation, any dental or soft tissue pathology, the balance of the dentition, the mastication of food, any pain related behaviour, poor performance or condition.
By recognising the individuals needs, I can then maintain the balance of the dentition accordingly, to improve the horses dental function, comfort, performance but overall and most importantly the horses wellbeing.
Any advanced pathology will be referred to a specialist equine dental vet.

Its extremely important that when booking your horse in for a treatment you take into consideration your horse’s behaviour, and are truthful if the horse is likely to be difficult to treat, ( ie walk over us, head toss, or rear! ) if your horse is likely to do any of the above the horse needs sedating by your vet or given an oral sedation also from your vet. (shop bought calmers don’t work) firstly its awfully difficult to treat a horse thoroughly if it’s being difficult, not to mention dangerous. Horses are a flight animal and if the treatment becomes a trauma to them the likelihood of treating them in the future unsedated is slim, most horses are accommodating but the odd one will go into flight or fight, so it’s very important to not cause any unnecessary stress to our equine friends.
Im happy to treat your horse wherever make your horse most at ease, however I’m not so keen on working in an unsafe environment ( ie not mucked out stables, buckets, hay nets, deep bedding) it’s much safer to have a hard standing clear of droppings and no other loose objects that the horse can back into, Also it’s much easier to bring horses to one stable rather than moving from stable to stable, my equipment it very heavy to be moving around. if outside in a field there must be a secure area where I can treat the horse clear of mud I will not treat horses out side in the rain as it makes it very difficult to look in the horses mouth.
